Neighborhood Guide
To many, San Francisco is known as the City by the Bay. It is famous for many reasons: the fog, the Golden Gate Bridge, the houses in Alamo Square, Alcatraz Island, Telegraph Hill, crab season, The Palace of Fine Arts, Jazz, the Opera, sailing, surfing, tacos, and the Mission.
San Francisco's fascinating neighborhoods sprawl over its rolling hills. They showcase architectural styles that include modern, minimal architecture contrasting its celebrated Victorian-style construction. Living here is often like Tony Bennet's song tells: "to be where little cable cars climb halfway to the stars."
The hills of San Francisco bestow the City's fame and character. Like Rome, initially, the City identified seven hills: Nob Hill, Russian Hill, Telegraph Hill, Rincon Hill, Mt. Davidson, Twin Peaks, and Mt. Sutro. Today we acknowledge the 48 named hills as San Francisco.
